Jenny's Fraction Growing Post..

1) Expressing fractions in lowest terms is when you reduce the fraction to the simplest terms possible(by dividing both the numerator and denominator by the same number)..

2) An improper fraction is where the numerator is larger that the denominator, so its like there is one equal whole plus some parts..
A mixed number is pretty much the same thing except the whole is not combined with the actual 'fraction part'..

3)a website that explains how to simplify fractions to the lowest terms.
It also has a little 'activity' you can do to help you understand how to reduce fractions..

4) a) If you have 3/4 of pepperoni pizza and 4/5 of cheese pizza, how much pizza do you have??

b) Jenny has 10 1/2 doughnuts. She gives some guy 5 1/2 of them. How many doughnuts does she have left??

5) Stephanie 8-73, Jeff 8-17, Dhonna 8-16

6)
They all have an 'activity' at the bottom to help you understand how to subtract fractions...

Subtracting fractions with same denonimators
Subtracting fractions with diff. denominators
Subtracting mixed fractions

a)3/4=15/20
4/5=16/20
15+16=31/20 i.e. 11/20

b)10-5 =5
1/2-1/2=0

5+0=5 i.e. 10 and 1/2 - 5 and 1/2= 5
